How to Create an Eco Friendly and Grassy Logo
Eco and green are all everyone is talking about. The environment and our future is a very current topic and quite frankly where it is at! Having the skill set to create a fun and friendly eco logo is a valuable asset to any designer.
Read on and follow this tutorial to learn the steps and create your own eco friendly logo.
Step 1. Open up a new canvas size 800px by 1200px
Step 2. Download a crumpled paper effect from www.sxc.hu and add this to your canvas, desaturate it set the layer to overlay and decrease the opacity. Duplicate this layer flip it 180 degrees by selecting edit > transform > rotate 180 degrees, then decrease the opacity again.
If you want a more textured background add a few more paper textures from www.sxc.hu make sure you desaturate them and set them to a low opacity.
Step 3. Now duplicate your original background layer and bring this to the top of the layers pallete and lower the opacity.
Step 4. We are now going to darken the edges to add a more dramatic feel to the overall background. Add a new layer and use a large soft edged paint brush with the colour black and paint all around the edges. Set this layer to overlay and lower the opacity. Once you have finished duplicate this layer to multiply the effect.
Step 5. Time to add some text! Select the T Tool and choose a nice clean and structured font. I have written the word 'GREEN' buy you can choose any word you like or that you want for your own project, then choose font size 350pt and then center it. Lower the opacity of the text so you can still see what your working on underneath.
Now your going to use the lasso tool to draw around each letter, go around the letter and incorporate little grass strands and bumpy bits to create a natural effect (this will be much easier to do if you are using a graphics tablet). Once you have drawn around your letter right click it and select layer via copy. This will create the cut out of your letter on a new layer.
Repeat this step for each letter and then delete the original grass layer and the text layer so you are only left with the grass letters.
Step 7. Now we are going to add some layer styles to make your letters stand out and come to life. Below are the settings I used for the layer styles.
Step 8. Once you have added the first set of layer styles, duplicate your layer and delete the set of styles attached to it. Then add some more! These styles just add that little extra to the lettering that really gives it that punch!
Repeat this for all the grass letters so each one looks the same and has the same effect.
(If you want you can add a group and put all the letters inside it to tidy up your layer pallete)
Step 9. To bring some light in to the image use the radial gradient tool of white fading to transparent and create a circular effect in the top left corner on a new layer. Set the layer to overlay and lower the opacity.
Step 10. For the finishing touches you can download some butterflies or other little critters and add them to your canvas, resize and rotate them and place them of your lettering.
And there you have it a quick and easy way to create an eco friendly logo that everyone will love!
